Stem cells - therapy

Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, produces a reparative response of diseased, dysfunctional and injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives. This is the next chapter in organ transplantation, and it uses cells instead of donor organs that are numerically limited.

Researchers harbor stem cells in the lab. These cells are manipulated to specialize in specific cell types, such as heart muscle cells, blood cells, or nerve cells.
After that, specialized cells can be implanted in the diseased organ. For example, if someone has a heart condition, the cells can be injected into the heart muscle. Then healthy heart cells that have been transplanted can contribute to the healing of a sick heart muscle.

Researchers have already shown that adult bone marrow cells that are designed to become heartlike cells can cure heart tissue in humans, and additional research is ongoing.

Stem Cell Lines

A stem cell line is a group of cells that originate from a single original stem cell and are grown in a laboratory. Cells in the stem cell line continue to grow, but do not differentiate into specialized cells. Ideally they would not have genetic defects and would continue to create stem cells. From the stem cell line, groups of cells can be taken and frozen to be stored or shared with other researchers.

What can be treated with stem cells

1. Cartilage defects of a larger degree, preferably up to 2 cm2 of large joints
2. Osteochondral damage with cartilage preservation
3. Osteoarthrosis
4. Damage to ligaments and muscles (up to Grade II/III)
5. For prolapse or damage of the disk in perioperative time
6. Controlled by RTG injection in the spinal cord in osteoporosis, pathological fractures, bone cyst filling, psudoarthrosis
7. Augmentation during prosthetic surgery of large joints
8. Reconstruction of the meniscus
9. Treatment of adults with cerebral palsy
10. Damage to the spinal cord due to fractures in the spinal vertebrae
11. Treatment of multiple sclerosis
12. Treatment of cervical myelopathies and migraines
13. Liver diseases
